Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg Awarded Regency Commitment Hospital of the Year

Posted on: Friday, 23 February 2007, 15:00 CST

Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg, a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital that provides intensive critical care to acutely ill, medically complex patients, received the Regency Commitment Hospital of the Year award. The hospital was recognized because of their outstanding commitment to customer service and excellence, which was measured by recent Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores. Their high scores were in the 99th percentile of all LTAC hospitals rated in the industry.

"This honor is an accurate reflection of our mission of giving people their lives back," said Doug Johnson, the Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg CEO. "It starts with our employees. We hire people that have a passion and calling for helping people in the healthcare industry. Positive, caring attitudes by caregivers provide the patient with comfort and the assurance that their needs are going to be met. And everyone knows the happiest of patients heal the quickest."

According to Johnson, interdisciplinary teamwork ensures the needs of every patient are met. "We de-emphasize departments, and instead focus on the holistic needs of each patient. Case management, nursing, respiratory, physicians, dieticians; we all work together to get our patients well and home to their loved ones."

Because customer satisfaction in the health care industry has received new attention and priority, Press Ganey questionnaires measure the patient's overall care evaluation. In addition to a Likert scale of evaluation, patients are able to provide direct comments.

A former Regency patient commented, "We were persistent in asking for what was needed and received all of the services requested. I would recommend Regency to anyone; they gave me my life back and became my family."

"I am very pleased with Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg. Their commitment to their patients and providing outstanding customer service is evident by their scores. They are an exemplary model in customer service for all hospitals to follow," said Rod Laughlin, Regency Hospital Company CEO.

Regency Hospital Company of Alpharetta, GA, the corporate entity for over 19 hospitals across the U.S., has dedicated a full time Clinical Educator with a clinical care background to oversee the training for all clinicians. Regency is also establishing a clinical ladder for all nursing personnel completing the course with monetary incentives for completion and certification.

Regency Hospital of Hattiesburg provides services to medically complex patients who have suffered recent catastrophic illnesses or injury and require an extended length of stay in an acute care environment, typically longer than two or three weeks.
