Decayed Baby Girl Found Inside Buried Jar

Posted on: Saturday, 3 March 2007, 15:00 CST

Medical examiners in Florida have confirmed that the decayed remains found in a jar recently unearthed by construction workers are those of a baby girl.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that area scientists are currently attempting to determine whether the girl was alive or stillborn when she was interned into the jar.

Monday's grisly discovery off of Florida's State Road 80 by a construction team marked the fourth discarded baby found in Palm Beach County during the last two years.

Authorities said that the baby girl, who was found with her umbilical cord still attached, may have been a full-term baby prior to being placed into the jar.

Scientists are working to discover such facts, including how she may have died if she was not a stillborn.

Still the shocking discovery drove many area officials to again call for more responsible actions from the community regarding infants to avoid inhumane actions in the future.

There's people waiting for babies, Palm Beach County sheriff's Lt. Michael Reardon told the paper. Just drop it off at a fire station, no questions asked.
