IntelliDOT™ Corporation, an innovator in patient safety and workflow management solutions for healthcare, applauds the National Patient Safety Foundation and the participating healthcare community in observing the upcoming Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 4 -- 10, 2007. The week is "a national education and awareness-building campaign for improving patient safety at the local level."
For the week of March 4 -- 10th, hospitals and healthcare communities across the country are encouraged to educate patients on how to become more involved in their own health care, and work to create a greater partnership with patient communities.
Patient safety is an issue of indisputable importance within healthcare. The Institute of Medicine's landmark report To Err is Human (1999) estimated that between 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die each year from preventable medical errors; the IOM's more recent report Preventing Medication Errors (2006) estimated that 1.5 million preventable adverse drug events, or medication errors, occur in the United States each year.
"Across the board, the healthcare community is full of dedicated, caring and compassionate professionals who want to provide safe care to patients," said Tom Klopack, Chief Executive Officer of IntelliDOT. "Easy to use information technology, quickly learned and used effectively by clinicians, is essential in improving and ensuring patient safety. IntelliDOT is designing and implementing these systems for clinicians now. We commend the work of hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country who are actively implementing and using these systems to protect their patients."
"It is very encouraging to see the nation acknowledge Patient Safety Awareness Week," said Eileen Dennis, RN, MBA, Chief Nursing Officer at Parkview Medical Center, located in Pueblo, CO. "Parkview, along with like-minded hospitals across the country, is dedicated to protecting patient safety and utilizing the best available technology, such as IntelliDOT's CAREt™ System, to prevent medication errors. If we have the tools to protect patients at our fingertips, then it is our responsibility as caregivers to use them. Parkview supports fellow institutions who are taking action."
About the CAREt System
The CAREt System is the first nurse-centered workflow manager to connect caregivers with the information systems they need at the point of care. Designed to complement the way nurses work, the handheld CAREt System is simple to use and provides nurses with a single, wireless tool for medication safety and documentation at the bedside.
The integrated hardware and software solution provided by IntelliDOT results in a cost-effective "smart hardware" system for hospitals looking for a customized design for caregivers at the bedside. By simply scanning a patient wristband, nurses are prompted by the CAREt handheld tool through all required medication administration and documentation tasks that have accumulated for a patient. Information is clear, organized and delivered right into the caregiver's hand, right when it's needed.
