Wife: Military Doctors Ignored Husband

The wife of an injured U.S. soldier told a congressional panel her husband’s condition was virtually ignored by doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

At a hearing in the hospital’s auditorium before the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Annette McLeod, the wife of Cpl. Wendell McLeod, told lawmakers how she begged hospital personnel to help her husband but instead saw him ignored and his conditions worsen.

American soldiers are injured every day. … Every day family members learn loved ones are coming home different than when they left, McLeod said. Family members should not have to go through this.

Spc. Jeremy Duncan said he contacted The Washington Post about conditions in his hospital room when multiple calls to the building manager and other Army officials brought no action in cleaning up the black mold or holes in the walls.

Staff Sgt. John Shannon said part of the problem is that it takes days for the paperwork to catch up with injured soldiers.
