Pop stars Girls Aloud and indie-rockers Arctic Monkeys have announced an unlikely collaboration, to be recorded at a Welsh studio. The all-boy indie band said they had already recorded a backing track for the all-girl pop group. Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding said, ‘The big tip is we’re going to collaborate… I love these boys. They’ve got a strong future ahead of them.’ Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner said, ‘Matt Helders (the band’s drummer) and Sarah in Rockfield Studios, that’s how it’s going to work. Down in Wales for two weeks.’

Helders added backstage at the NME Awards, ‘I’ve got a backing track ready for us. It won’t take two weeks – two days.’

The Arctic Monkeys have already covered Girls Aloud hit song Love Machine, which has become a favourite with some of their fans.

Harding and her bandmate Nicola Roberts handed a gong to the Arctic Monkeys at last week’s NME Awards.

Girls Aloud were created on ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

Sheffield group the Arctic Monkeys rose to fame by building a fanbase on the internet.

The Arctic Monkeys picked up two awards for Best Album and Best Music DVD at last week’s awards.

Afterwards, Helders joked, ‘It’s a shame it’s March because Sarah Harding was the February girl on my calendar.’ The bands made the announcement backstage at the NME Awards, and the full video can be seen at NME.com
