Posted on: Friday, 9 March 2007, 18:00 CST
Surgeons at The Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, a leader in ophthalmic treatment and research, will demonstrate the latest retinal surgery techniques in a live broadcast on www.OR-Live.com May 3rd, 2007 at 12:05 PM EDT.
Dr. Hilel Lewis, Chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology and Director of The Cole Eye Institute, will select and perform an instructive retinal procedure. "We believe that learning occurs during interaction and exchanges so active participation is a very important feature of this Summit," says Dr. Lewis.
The live surgical presentation is one of many activities that will make up the two-day Summit for ophthalmologists from around the world. The Summit is part of an ongoing ophthalmologic education initiative, which addresses the most important new developments in vitreoretinal diseases and retinal surgery. Dr. Lewis says, "We have invited a super-star faculty including outstanding surgeons, key innovators, and researchers that will be presenting the information that is important to your daily practice."
The internet audience will watch the same surgery as participants attending the 6th Retina Summit in Cleveland and will be able to email their questions to the surgeons during the one hour live broadcast.
Dr. Peter K. Kaiser, an ophthalmologist in the Vitreoretinal Department at The Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, will moderate the live event. Dr. Kaiser will provide the highlights of the retinal procedure with Dr. Lewis performing the surgery in the operating room. The surgical broadcast will be archived for future viewing.
The Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute provides outstanding resources for clinicians and researchers seeking to treat such complex problems as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal detachments, uveitis, strabismus and pediatric eye disorders, among many other diseases.
