Fighting Fit
By Steven Swanson
Welcome to Fighting Fit. It’s great to be back after our hiatus for those people from that other fitness club. I hope we can re- inspire some old fans of the column, while also acquiring some new followers along the way.
For newer readers, Fighting Fit is a weekly column that is written especially for the Evening Chronicle. We talk about health, fitness and diet for everyone, whether you’re at home, out and about or in the gym. Most importantly, we take notice of regional events, such as the Great North Run, and help you to prepare for them.
My name is Steven Swanson and I work at Greens Health & Fitness in Gosforth as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor.
If you have read this column in the past, you will hopefully have benefited from my advice of exercise and healthy living. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be offering simple exercise plans, which will improve your fitness, and have you looking great for the summer. We’ll work week by week to build a plan that will develop fitness and help you shed those unwanted pounds.
I will also be giving advice on healthy living, covering subjects such as good fats, bad fats, sugars and proteins, breaking down the benefits and consequences of everything you eat and drink. This will help you decide how to fill your basket the next time you go to the supermarket.
Another subject will be fad diets. Do they really work or are they a waste of time? This should be an eye opener for many of you and it might just change the way you decide to lose weight.
Finally, we will look into the most common myths surrounding health and fitness, while also telling you useful things like how to calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) at home.
So that’s all for now. Dig out your gym kit and get ready for next week.
