Mar. 13–Hesperia Girl Scouts celebrated the organization’s 95th birthday with a special event at the Hesperia Library last Tuesday.
Hosted by the Girl Scouts’ Hesperia Service Unit, the Girl Scouts were treated to several special activities. Brook Flagg, public relations coordinator for the Girl Scouts Hesperia Service Unit, helped to start the event by reading several books that discuss how to help people with disabilities. She read excerpts from “Max Learns Sign Language” and other books featuring Max.
Afterward, Flagg asked questions to prompt group discussion.
“Why would Max need to learn sign language?” she asked.
After the book readings, Girl Scouts Dana and Beth Eggleston taught the girls some sign language.
To reinforce the topic, girls broke into groups to create colorful drawings about signing.
“The new Hesperia Library is so beautiful, and the Children’s Room staff is so helpful,” Flagg said. “We knew it would be a perfect venue to promot the 95th birthday of Girl Scouts.”
The Girl Scouts of the United States of America was founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912. An estimated 2.7 million girls belong to the organization.
