Programs for Healthy Families Being Offered at Area Libraries: ; Puppet Show, Dance, Dance Revolution Among Offerings

THE Kanawha County Public Library will offer a variety of programs for healthy families in the coming months.

These programs are part of a project called Beginning a Healthy Life, a collaborative effort by Kanawha County Public Library, the Clay Center and West Virginia Public Broadcasting, funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Sciences, the Benedum Foundation and The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.

Call the host library to register.

Madcap Puppet Show: A Mouthful of Healthy Habits

A mouth has been invaded by two mouth goblins! Junk food and bad health habits make them stronger and more destructive to the body. Through creative interpretations of “The Three Little Pigs” and “Hansel and Gretel”, the mouth learns healthful habits and how to wipe out these teeth-rotting villains.

All ages. Registration required.

Healthy Bodies, Healthy Lives

Singer/songwriter Mick Souter travels the state sharing with children the importance of making healthy choices in their everyday activities. His upbeat program of original songs and stories helps children to address the importance of good nutrition, exercise and other healthy habits.

Dance, Dance Revolution Party

Parents and children, come show your moves and your dancing skills. In Dance Dance Revolution, a player must move his or her feet to a set pattern, stepping in time to the beat of a song. In other words: you gotta dance!

Eeuw, That’s Gross!

The Digestive System

What’s more disgusting than the human digestive system? Through stories, games and other activities, you’ll learn about and see the how food is processed, from the mouth to the bitter end. This program is sure to gross you out!

Walking for the Art of It

Individuals and families, take the first steps to beginning a healthy life with a walk around Charleston. During May, stop by the Children’s Department at the Main Library to pick up a map to the sites of various works of outdoor art. This map will also help you track the steps to a happier, healthier you.
