Biggie a Big Draw at SJMC
MORE participants are signing up for The Malay Mail Big Walk 2006/ 2007.
Yesterday, 20 staff members of Subang Jaya Medical Centre signed up for the walk during the hospital’s `Carnival Fun For All’ organised by SJMC Sports and Recreation Club, which started at 8am at Shah Alam Stadium.
“We support the Biggie because we share the same desire of helping the less fortunate,” said SJMC chief executive officer, healthcare group, Elaine P.Y. Cheong.
“We also encourage our staff to be sensitive to people’s needs and to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so the Biggie is not to be missed.”
Syafiq Aiman, senior manager of support services division of the hospital, said it wasn’t prizes that the staff were looking forward to, but the spirit of sportsmanship and being able to help the less fortunate.
“Our carnival has the same vision; helping those in need,” he said.
Besides raising funds for the recreation club, the carnival was also an opportunity for children from four charitable organisations – Montfort Boys Town, the Salvation Army, Rumah Hope and Ozanam Home – to have a good time at the event. SJMC sponsored their visit.
“The Malay Mail Big Walk is another opportunity for us to do something for charity, this time by contributing towards a fund to buy prosthetic limbs for children with bone cancer,” he said.
Syafiq also added that SJMC would subsidise the registration fee for its staff taking part in The Malay Mail Big Walk.
“The amount to be subsidised will depend on the number of employees who sign up for the event,” he said.
The Malay Mail Big Walk will be held on April 29 at Dataran Merdeka at 7am.
RM1 of the registration fee (RM10 for adults and RM5 for schoolchildren) will be channelled to a fund to buy artificial limbs or walking aids for children who have lost their limbs to bone cancer.
Look out for the entry form in The Malay Mail. Participants can also register at the FTAAA office, 2nd floor, Wisma OCM, Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur, or at Balai Berita, 31, Jalan Riong, Bangsar.
