Medical Ethics Course Offered in India

Two University College London researchers have been awarded a grant to establish a medical ethics course in India, with an emphasis on women’s rights.

Shanthi Muttukrishna and Ray Noble of UCL’s Institute of Women’s Health will establish the course at the Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences in Andra Pradesh, India.

The University College London academics will develop collaborative undergraduate and postgraduate courses in reproductive health, as well as conducting research into reproductive ethics and rights.

According to the World Health Organization, reproductive healthcare is a major factor in the wellbeing of women worldwide and poor access to such care is a major cause of maternal death and morbidity, Muttukrishna and Noble said in a statement.

The British researchers received the grant from the United Kingdom-India Education Research Initiative.
