Pupils to Visit Labs

Hundreds of school pupils are visiting university science labs this week for the annual Durham Science Festival.

Youngsters aged 13 to 15 from schools and colleges in County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Tees Valley are taking part in the event.

They are working in teams of four on a series of projects with university science lecturers and postgraduate research students.

Bar decision

A DECISION will be taken tomorrow on a bid to open a European- style cafe/bar on Tynemouth’s Front Street.

Lewis Rana is applying for a licence to serve alcohol from 11am- 11pm at Lui’s Cafe Bar which would be based in premises occupied by the Deep Blue Dive Centre, which is relocating to Whitley Bay.

Tynemouth Village association has objected, saying that Front Street has 19 premises which supply alcohol.

Trust overseer

A NEW non-executive director will oversee North Tyneside Primary Care Trust.

As a non-executive director Tim van Zwanenberg will play a key role in overseeing the PCT and ensuring that it delivers healthcare services and improves the health of the local population.

Tim, of Tynemouth, has had a wide range of experience as a general practitioner, academic and senior health services manager in the North-East and overseas in Papua New Guinea.

PO move plan

A POST Office in Newcastle is proposing to relocate ( but only 50 yards away.

Post Office Ltd is considering moving Druridge Drive Post Office from 193 Stamfordham Road to premises within a convenience store at 210-212 Stamfordham Road.
