Holy Week Services

Mar. 31—- At Alger First United Methodist Church, the Messiah Quartet will present the 7 p.m. community Palm Sunday Service at the Assembly of God Church, 7050 state Route 235, Alger. On Maundy Thursday, the 7 p.m. service will be held at Alger First United Methodist Church, 702 N. Main St., Alger.

— The Bluffton Ministerial Association will host its joint Good Friday service at 12:05 p.m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ, 223 W. College Ave., Bluffton. The service will include a series of readings, and the traditional procession of carrying a cross throughout the community.

— Cable Road Alliance Church will offer a 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday service, with special music, at the church, 2264 N. Cable Road, Lima. On Good Friday, a Remembrance Service will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

— Calvary Chapel of Praise will host evangelist Marc Curry at its men’s breakfast, beginning at 9 a.m. today at the church, 1601 Rebecca Drive, Lima. Cost is by donation. Curry will also preach at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Palm Sunday at the church.

— Central Christian Church will celebrate Palm Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 525 W. North St., Lima. On Maundy Thursday, a prayer vigil will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the church, followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, the noon service will begin at The Oasis at West Elm Street, Lima.

— The Columbus Grove community Holy Week services will include a 7 p.m. Holy Thursday service at Church of the Good Shepherd. On Good Friday, the 7 p.m. community service will be held at St. John United Methodist Church.

— Elm Street Church of the Brethren will celebrate Palm Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. children’s program. The guest minister will be Carl Liechty. The church is located at 619 E. Elm St., Lima.

— Family of Faith United Methodist Church will offer a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. at the church, 801 Bellefontaine Ave., Lima. At that service, Pastor Lynn Huffman will preach, “Communing with Friends,” and Holy Communion will be served.

— First Baptist Church will host the Lafayette Community Chorus in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 451 N. Cable Road, Lima. On Maundy Thursday, a program with Holy Communion will begin at 7 p.m. On Friday, the Good Friday Prayer meeting will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. in the chapel.

— First Lutheran Church of Leipsic will begin Palm Sunday with a palm procession and Holy Communion at the 10 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 7 W. Main St., Leipsic. On Maundy Thursday, a 7:30 p.m. service will be offered, which will also include Holy Communion. On Good Friday, the service at the church will start at 7:30 p.m.

— Forest Park United Methodist Church will host the Lafayette Chorus presenting its Easter cantata at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. On Good Friday, a meditation with Holy Communion will be offered at 6:30 p.m. That will be followed by a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. The church is located at 315 S. Collins Ave., Lima.

— Gardendale Church of God will host a Good Friday Walkthrough service from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, 4130 Spencerville Road, Lima.

— Grace United Methodist Church, 125 W. Kibby St., Lima, will offer a 10:30 a.m. Palm Sunday service, with Dr. Daniel Curtis preaching, “The City Was Stirred.” That service will also include a parade of palms, and the reception of the confirmation class. On Maundy Thursday, a 7:30 p.m. service with Holy Communion will feature the sermon, “Broken and Poured.” A shared Tenebrae worship with Lima’s Trinity United Methodist Church will begin at 7 p.m. on Good Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

— Lafayette Community Chorus will present its 57th annual Easter cantata, “Footprints in the Sand: A Journey to the Cross and Beyond,” at three performances throughout the week. The music, under the direction of Dennis Dellifield, will be offered at 3 p.m. Palm Sunday at Lafayette United Methodist Church. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Park United Methodist Church, and at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Lima. Special music with Karen Joseph and Charlotte Apfelbeck will begin 30 minutes prior to each performance.

— The Lima Catholic Collaborative City-Wide Penance Service will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Rose Church. Also on that day, a 9:15 a.m. Palm Sunday Mass will be offered at St. John Catholic Church, and at 11 a.m. at St. Rose. Holy Thursday Mass will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, with Eucharistic Adoration until 10 p.m. On Good Friday, an 11 a.m. soup luncheon will be held prior to the Mass at St. John Catholic Church. From noon to 12:30 p.m., a quiet reflection time will be held there, and at 12:30 p.m., Passion of the Lord with Communion will be observed, followed at 2 p.m. by Living Stations. At 6 p.m. that day, Stations of the Cross will be held at Gethsemani Cemetery.

— Mendon First Church of God will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church, 106 N. Wayne St., Mendon.

— New Life Church International will host The Shofar Man, Jim Barbarossa, at 7 p.m. on Good Friday at the church, 1180 W. High St., Lima. Also on Good Friday, the church will be open for a walk-in service anytime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which will include Holy Communion. On Saturday, a workshop on the ancient Hebrew instrument will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. That workshop will include dance by Carla Barbarossa. Cost for the workshop is $10. — The Rousculp Church of Christ will host a Good Friday candlelight worship service beginning at 7 p.m. That service will include video clips, Scripture, special music, and Holy Communion. The church is located at 890 Amherst Road, Lima.

— At St. Charles Parish, Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion will be observed with Masses at 7:30, 9:15 and 11:30 a.m., and 5 p.m. On Sunday, a city-wide Penance Service will begin at 3 p.m. at St. Rose Church. Also on that day, a dramatization of The Last Supper will be presented by St. Charles Vocation Committee, at 7:15 p.m. at the church. On Tuesday, Masses will be celebrated at 8 a.m., with the 11 a.m. Chrism Mass at Rosary Cathedral in Toledo. Holy Thursday will offer a morning prayer at 8:45 a.m. at the church. There will be no 8 a.m. Mass that day, Friday, or Saturday. Mass of the Last Supper will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, with private prayer with the Eucharist in room 6, from 8 to 11 p.m. On Good Friday, potato soup will be served at 11 a.m. The Mass of the Lord’s Passion will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed at 1:45 p.m. by Living Stations of the Cross. The Tenebrae Service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

— St. Gerard Catholic Church will offer a Tenebrae Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 240 W. Robb Ave., Lima. On Holy Thursday, a 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be held, with the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament following, until 10 p.m. in the parish hall. On Good Friday, Stations of the Cross will begin at noon, with a Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 2 p.m., and Mary’s Way of the Cross at 7 p.m.

— St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos will offer Palm Sunday Masses, which will include blessing of the palms, at 4:30 p.m. today, and 7:30, 9:15 and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. On Wednesday, the Tenebrae service, with music and prayer, will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Maundy Thursday, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 7:30 p.m., with feet washing and the Holy Eucharist. On Good Friday, the eighth-graders will participate in Stations of the Cross at noon, with the high school at 12:45 p.m. doing reflections in song and spoken word. The celebration of the Lord’s Passion will begin at 1:45 and again at 7:30 p.m.

— St. John United Church of Christ will hold a Good Friday service with Holy Communion at 7 p.m. at the church, 223 W. College Ave., Bluffton. The Rev. Charles Harvey Jordan, a son of the congregation and former president of the denomination’s Indiana-Kentucky conference, will present a story told through dramatic monologues.

— St. Mark United Methodist Church will host a Palm Sunday worship at the 10:15 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 1110 N. Metcalf St., Lima. A Maundy Thursday service with Holy Communion will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

— St. Paul United Methodist Church will celebrate Palm Sunday with special choir music at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday at the church, 105 E. Main St., Elida. On Maundy Thursday, a 7 p.m. Tenebrae Service of candles, Scripture and music will be held.

— Shawnee Presbyterian Church will celebrate Palm Sunday with a 10:30 a.m. service, led by Ohio Northern University’s People of Worship, at the church, 2223 Shawnee Road, Lima. Following that, a covered dish dinner will be held in the church’s fellowship hall. On Maundy Thursday, a 6:30 p.m. Seder Meal will be served. On Good Friday, the Shawnee community will gather for a 7 p.m. service at Westview United Methodist Church.

— Shawnee United Methodist Church will host Palm Sunday services at 9 and 11 a.m. on Sunday at the church, 2600 Zurmehly Road, Lima. On Good Friday, a worship service will begin at 7 p.m.

— Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church will host Pastor B. Lamont Monford and the congregation of Philippian Missionary Baptist Church at an 11 a.m. joint service on Palm Sunday. Shiloh Missionary is located at 110 W. Eleventh St., Lima.

— At Southside Church, Palm Sunday will be celebrated at the 10:15 a.m. service, with a healing and reconciliation service set for 7 p.m. at the church, 3300 SouthSide Drive, Lima. On Maundy Thursday, the service will begin at 7 p.m. The Good Friday service will begin at noon at The Oasis on West Elm, at 1606 W. Elm St., Lima.

— Trinity United Methodist Church in Lima will host a Parade of the Palms at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at the church, 301 W. Market St., Lima. On Maundy Thursday, a Coffeehouse Theatre will begin there at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, a community service will be offered from noon to 1 p.m., and the Tenebrae Service of Light and Darkness will begin at 7 p.m.

— Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa will celebrate Palm Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday at the church, 137 N. Pratt St., Ottawa. The sermon theme will be “Going Through Suffering.” The church will be open throughout the week at noon for daily prayer. On Wednesday, the Messiah Quartet will present, “The Road to Calvary” at 7:30 p.m. The Maundy Thursday service, featuring the dramatic presentation, “Is It I, Lord?” and Holy Communion, will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Good Friday, the “Meditation at the Cross” and “Reproaches” will begin at 1 p.m.

— Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert will host a Holy Week cantata, “Spotless Lamb: A Journey to the Cross,” at 7 p.m. on Palm Sunday at the church, 220 S. Walnut St., Van Wert. The adult choir is under the direction of Nancy Bushong.

— Zion Lutheran Church in Lima will host its contemporary palm service at 5 p.m. today at the church, 1300 Edgewood Drive, Lima. On Sunday, Palm Sunday services will begin at 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. The Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and the Good Friday service will start at 8 p.m.

— Zion Lutheran Church in Lafayette will host a Maundy Thursday worship service, with Holy Communion, at 7 p.m. Thursday. On Good Friday, the church will host a community service at 7 p.m. The church is located at 101 E. Main St., Lafayette.

— Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys will celebrate Palm Sunday at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services at the church, 210 N. Wayne St., St. Marys. At 9:15 a.m. that day, an Easter egg hunt will be held. At 6:30 p.m., “The Passion of the Christ” will be shown. On Maundy Thursday, a 7 p.m. service will be held. On Good Friday, a Service of Shadows will begin at 7 p.m.
