The Children’s Defense Fund will hold a free Health Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the CDF Freedom School, 1452 North Broad St.

The Health Expo, which is open to the public, will feature dental, diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol screenings. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, and Louisiana Spirit will conduct health education workshops.

“Since Hurricane Katrina, many of our families have not received regular health care,” said Mary Joseph, director of the Children’s Defense Fund of Louisiana. “We will have physical and mental health workshops that will help families identify danger signals, especially with their children who have had to cope with so much during the past 18 months.”

Children, adults and seniors are invited to attend. Officials from state agencies will be on site to assist with completing applications for the Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program, LaMOMS (a no-cost health coverage for pregnant women) and Medicaid. There will also be games, prizes and free nutritional snacks for the entire family.
