Thomson Healthcare MercuryMD Mobile Solution Helps St. Elizabeth Medical Center Decrease Billing Cycle and Increase Revenue
Posted on: Monday, 2 April 2007, 12:00 CDT
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomson Healthcare, the leading provider of decision support solutions that improve clinical and business performance outcomes, announced today that St. Elizabeth, a network of three hospitals in Northern Kentucky, decreased its billing cycle and increased revenue for procedures performed by its hospital staff through the use of its MercuryMD Mobile Solution with Charge Capture.
"Before we implemented Thomson Healthcare's MercuryMD Mobile Solution, physicians in our system were manually recording billing data for each procedure. Due to our high patient census, sometimes procedures were not logged at all. This resulted in both lost revenue and data entry errors," said Steve Slutsky, physician liaison, St. Elizabeth Medical Center. "Since we started using the solution we have cut our billing cycle from 14 days to one day, we have seen a 24 percent increase in patient volume and a 6.5 percent increase in revenue."
The Thomson Healthcare MercuryMD Mobile Solution delivers real-time patient clinical data to a physician's handheld device, smartphone, PDA or desktop. With it, physicians have immediate access to critical patient data, including patient census, demographics, medications and lab results. With the addition of the Charge Capture module, physicians at St. Elizabeth now record charges for procedures right on their mobile devices, reducing lost and inaccurate charges, eliminating inefficiencies and reducing the time-to-claim.
"A lot of companies promise you the world and don't deliver. The Thomson Healthcare Mercury MD solution delivered," said Jeffrey M. Pilger, MD, director of the St. Elizabeth hospitalist program. "It literally delivered patient data to the palm of my hand, allowing me to be more efficient and provide better care for my patients. That is worth the price of admission right there."
