Apr. 4–The Quechan Youth Conference will continue through Thursday.
WHAT: Quechan Youth Conference
EVENT’S GOAL: To educate local youth on various issues, all while providing young people with positive alternative activities during Spring Break, according to Christina Allen, a senior counselor with Ft. Yuma Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Program.
OPEN TO WHOM: Young people and adults of all ethnic backgrounds.
WHEN: The event began Tuesday and continues through Thursday
Today 9 to 10 a.m. — Breakfast 10 a.m. — Keynote speaker with Gila River Police Department will talk about the current issue of methamphetamines 6 to 10 p.m. — Family culture night, including dinner, traditional dancers and drum groups
Break-out sessions include: Gangs — 1 to 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. HIV and AIDS — 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Diabetes — 1 to 1:45 p.m. Quechan Market pottery classes — 1:45 to 2:30 p.m.
Thursday 9 to 10 a.m. — Breakfast 10 a.m. — Addresses by Quechan Tribal Judge Claudette White and Tribal Councilwoman Cryselle Uribe
