OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today that his government has reached a deal with the provinces and territories on patient wait-time guarantees.
But he didn't say how he would ensure the provinces meet the guarantees. The announcement comes amid feverish speculation about a possible spring election. The prime minister says the government has fulfilled its election promise of guaranteed wait limits for essential health care.
The Tories made wait-time guarantees one of their Top 5 priorities when they took office last year.
During the election campaign, they said patients unable to get timely medical care would be sent to another jurisdiction or allowed to get treatment in private clinics at public expense.
