Med Diet Tonic for Asthma
CHILDREN with asthma should eat a Mediterranean diet of fruit, vegetables and nuts, medical experts claim.
Scientists found it can reduce asthmatic wheezing and other allergic symptoms.
A study of almost 700 children on the Greek island of Crete showed foods – including olive oil, tomatoes and whole grain nuts – helped those with asthma.
University of Crete researchers found that children who ate nuts and grapes at least three times a week were less likely to wheeze.
Their report said yesterday:
“Our findings indicate a high dietary intake of commonly consumed fruit, vegetables and nuts may have a protective role on the prevalence of asthma-like symptoms.”
SCIENTISTS at Glasgow University have found that diets with high levels of fat reduce the activity of antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, in the stomach lining and can lead to bowel, breast and stomach cancer.
