Public Health Service Bureau Addresses Administrative Challenges Facing Public Health Entities

Posted on: Monday, 9 April 2007, 09:00 CDT

Public Health Service Bureau (PHSB), a leading provider of pharmacy benefit management and information management systems for public health agencies, today announced the launch of its new Document Management Solution specifically designed to support public health entities. By offering a cost effective solution for converting traditional paper-based records to a digital format, PHBS's new solution increases efficiency and simplifies data management and storage issues.

"To maximize the value of the service public health agencies provide to the people they serve, it is imperative they operate as efficiently as possible," said Eric Flowers, CEO of Public Health Service Bureau. "Traditionally, these agencies have been challenged with managing large quantities of paperwork, which means too much of the scarce funds available in this market are directed away from the public to deal with managerial and overhead issues. Our new Document Management Solution is designed to address these issues so more of the operational budget will reach the community of people in need of benefits."

The Document Management Solution provides customers with the capability to convert hard copy enrollment files into an electronic format that can be searched and retrieved through a secure web-based application. With simplified data retrieval and reduced storage costs, the new product will help public health entities better manage the enrollment process and ensure the accuracy and quality of service provided. PHSB's new solution also reduces time and money spent researching and retrieving information for audit purposes; drastically improves disaster recovery capabilities; and improves the quality of the patients experience by making all records much more easily accessible.

The first customer to use PHSB's Document Management Solution is the San Francisco AIDS Office. Responsible for managing the city's $65 million in AIDS programs, the San Francisco AIDS Office will convert all "AIDS Drug Assistance Program" paper documents into a digitized format which will allow case workers to view information via a secure web site, allowing for greater efficiency in managing case loads.

"With nearly 9,000 people living with AIDS in San Francisco, we are always looking at ways to drive efficiency so that more funds are directed to patient services," said Michelle Long, Director of HIV Health Services at the San Francisco AIDS Office. "Public Health Service Bureau's new solution will help us streamline the administrative process, allowing for quick and secure access to electronic files."

The Document Management Solution provides the following benefits:

Reduced Storage Costs -- data is stored electronically, the requirement to store paper files for extended periods of time is eliminated

Time and Money Savings -- data can be retrieved in a fraction of the time it previously took, staff resources can be reallocated to other more pressing duties

Easier Audit Compliance -- files can be easily called up

Integration -- there is very little change in a customer's current enrollment and eligibility process -- faxing the paperwork to an 800-number converts the document to a TIFF file

Remote Access Capability -- access data from anywhere via a secure web-based portal

Disaster Recovery -- data is safe and secure due to storage at multiple locations
