Holy Name Hospital Selects Allscripts Emergency Department System

Posted on: Thursday, 12 April 2007, 12:00 CDT

Holy Name Hospital has agreed to deploy Allscripts' HealthMatics ED emergency department information system to automate operations and improve access to patient information for its more than 42,000 annual emergency department visits.

HealthMatics ED will streamline processes for the 361-bed acute care hospital's entire emergency department, including patient tracking and triage, nurse and physician charting, reporting and disposition.

Holy Name selected Allscripts after evaluating emergency department information system vendors for more than four years. The hospital said that it chose HealthMatics for its industry-leading connectivity, comprehensive functionality, ease of customization, and proven success at leading US hospitals.

The hospital plans to take advantage of the technology's auto paging functionality, which automatically alerts caregivers to significant clinical events such as returned abnormal lab results.

Other system features include remote chart access for community caregivers and hospital staff, so they can securely access an emergency department patient's chart via the hospital's web HIS physician portal. Physicians outside the hospital can then see what medications and treatments their patients received in the emergency department.

Holy Name will connect HealthMatics ED to its existing inpatient health information system, enabling full interoperability of all clinical and financial information across the hospital.

"Allscripts will support Holy Name's long-term goal of enhancing patient safety and satisfaction," commented Dr Richard Schwab, medical director of Holy Name's emergency department. "HealthMatics ED provides the best of both worlds with very fine documentation, excellent patient tracking, and, most important of all, excellent support from a company with many live implementations."
