Ellis Hospital Selects SIS to Help Improve Physician/Hospital Partnerships and Overall Surgery Department Performance

Surgical Information Systems (SIS) announced today that Ellis Hospital of Schenectady, New York has purchased the SIS solution because of its full breadth functionality and seamless integration capabilities. As the primary revenue generator for Ellis, surgery is critical to the success of the organization. Increasing demand and rising costs in this area (half of all materials purchased by the hospital go to support the OR) drove Ellis to select a solution that would enable them to effectively manage resources while successfully working with their physician partners.
While Ellis supports a "single-vendor strategy" for most of its IT needs, they were compelled to act on the advice of their users and choose a best-of-breed solution for the OR. Their reason -- the financial and clinical impact of the OR is too significant to settle for anything other than a proven solution that meets the needs of hospital executives, clinicians, physicians and patients.
According to Ellis' CIO, Bill Young, the focus for improving the hospital's surgery practice with IT was all about "big-picture" value. Young stated, "We wanted the best so we chose SIS. The SIS solution offers superior functionality across all surgical disciplines." Young added, "Ellis looks forward to meeting increased demand by increasing surgery volume. We will now be able to satisfy physicians while efficiently managing material inventories and costs, and improving clinical documentation. Our goal is to build an efficient, fully-automated surgical suite."
"Ellis' selection of SIS is a prime example of how surgery is truly unique from any other department in the hospital; requiring specific expertise and product functionality," said SIS CEO, Ed Daihl. "It also validates that SIS is well recognized as the leading provider in our space, with significant opportunity for future growth in the perioperative and anesthesia market, which has less than 20% saturation," added Daihl.
