Pure fitness company Nautilus, Inc. (NYSE: NLS) has secured the largest fitness contract in India by having been awarded an exclusive supply agreement with Talwalkars, India's largest chain of health centers.
The exclusive partnership involves outfitting 20 health and fitness centers in 2007, with another 80 planned in major retail malls across the country, through an agreement between Talwalkar Better Value Fitness and Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited. In addition, Nautilus has signed an exclusive distributor agreement with Talwalkars to market the company's premium home gym brands across India and will supply full product training.
"We want our new fitness centers to have the very best equipment available from one leading brand," said Mr. Prashant Talwalkar, managing director of Talwalkars, based in Mumbai. "We chose Nautilus after our extensive research of the international fitness market confirmed that they always deliver top-quality fitness equipment and excellent customer service."
Each new center will offer a state-of-the-art commercial gym supplied by Nautilus featuring strength and cardiovascular equipment. The assortment includes treadmills, ellipticals, steppers, bikes, Nautilus Nitro(R) Plus strength equipment, benches and free weights.
The centers will provide spa services, treatment rooms, snack and juice bars in an effort to provide a top-quality fitness experience at an affordable price. Larger centers also will feature a retail store where members can buy high-quality fitness products for their residence.
"We are delighted with the agreement with Talwalkars for both its commercial and retail business," said Darryl Thomas, President of International Fitness for Nautilus, Inc. "This is a significant step forward in our supporting the health and fitness training needs of India's 1.1 billion residents, which is 15 percent of the world's population.
"Talwalkars was not just looking for commercial or retail products. They were searching for a company that could provide consumers with a total fitness experience at the club and at home. They also placed a high value on the education and training packages that will drive new customers to their facilities as well as educate their growing employee base."
