MPRO Honors Select Michigan Nursing Homes and Home Health Agencies for Improving the Quality of Care

Posted on: Friday, 27 April 2007, 00:00 CDT

EAST LANSING, Mich., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- 31 Michigan nursing homes and 22 home health agencies today received MPRO's, Michigan's Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), prestigious Michigan Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Nursing Home and Home Health Setting(s). The award is bestowed to providers who are actively embracing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives to advance health care quality.

Nursing homes were honored for their work in improving care in any of the following areas including: high risk pressure ulcer care; physical restraints; chronic pain; depression; resident satisfaction; employee satisfaction; and staff turnover. Michigan home health agencies received the honor for decreasing acute care hospitalization and improving management of oral medications; improving telehealth capabilities; and improving immunizations rates for flu and pneumonia.

This is the first year that MPRO honored nursing homes statewide and the third year that home health agencies were honored. Recipients of the Michigan Award of Excellence for Improving Care showed notable improvement in quality measures designated as national health care priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In each setting a multidisciplinary team was established to spearhead improvement using proven, evidence-based practices to spur better outcomes.

"As Michigan's QIO, MPRO is privileged to recognize nursing homes and home health agencies that are embracing quality improvement initiatives," said Debra Moss, MD, MBA, president and CEO of MPRO. Dr. Moss added "The Michigan Award of Excellence is a seal of quality that denotes a commitment to excellence in the delivery of high quality care."

MPRO held an awards ceremony on April 26, 2007, at the Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, Michigan. To learn more about the awards, visit online at http://www.mpro.org/.
