MASSEY University’s public health research centre has been awarded $140,000 to investigate risk factors associated with non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma, diagnosed in about 600 New Zealanders annually.

Study leader Andrea ‘t Mannetje said the illness manifested itself as a group of cancers that may develop in any organ associated with the lymphatic system, such as the spleen, lymph nodes or tonsils.

The United States National Institutes of Health awarded the grant over two years to analyse the association between possible occupational risk factors such as pesticides and solvents, from nine separate case control studies.
