Goodall Will Speak Thursday at Pima College Earth Day Event

Legendary scientist Jane Goodall is the featured speaker for Pima Community College’s Earth Day celebrations Thursday at the Northwest Campus.

Goodall, whose time living among chimpanzees in the wild redefined the study of primate behavior, will speak at 1 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheater, 7600 N. Shannon Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Goodall started her groundbreaking study of chimpanzees in Tanzania in 1960. In 1965, her work earned her a Ph.D. from Cambridge University and she established the Gombe Stream Research Center, which continues her research today. In 1977, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, focusing on research, education and conservation.

Pima’s Earth Day activities start today at 9 a.m. on the Northwest Campus.

The University of Arizona will hold Earth Day activities, with the theme of “Green Transportation,” from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday on the Mall.
