Dekrey to Get Altru’s Nursing Hall of Fame Award

May 2–Wanda Dekrey, a registered and oncology nurse at Altru Health System, has been named the 2007 recipient of Altru’s Nursing Hall of Fame Award.
Dekrey, president of the Red River Valley chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, began as a recovery room nurse in 1987. She began work in medical oncology in June 1988, and eventually worked fulltime dealing with clinical trials involving chemotherapy research.
Dekrey is the co-chair of the Nursing Board for the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, based in Rochester, Minn.
The award will be presented at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, in Altru Hospital rooms A-D. The community is invited to attend the free event.
The Nursing Hall of Fame Award is given annually to honor Altru nurses who, over a career, have exhibited extraordinary achievement in nursing there. Dekrey is the 15th recipient of the award, sponsored by Altru’s Professional Nurse Committee and celebrated as part of National Nurses Week, May 6-12.
National Nurses Day is Sunday, May 6.
