Texas Man Charged With Running Off With Commerce Twp. Teen

May 4–A man from Midland, Texas was charged today with trying to run away with a 14-year-old Commerce Township girl he met through MySpace.com.
Richard Carrasco, 27, was charged in Novi’s 52-1 District Court with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of accosting a child and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
An Amber Alert for the girl was issued by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday after she apparently ran off with Carrasco Monday night. The two — who met on the popular social networking Web site — were found by a deputy at the Highlander Motel on Dixie Highway in Waterford Township.
Oakland County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Giles said that third-degree criminal sexual conduct is a 15-year penalty if convicted. He said he didn’t know how much total jail time Carrasco is facing for all of the charges.
District Judge Dennis Powers set bond at $1.65 million. Carrasco remains in the Oakland County Jail. His next hearing will be at 1:30 p.m. on May 9 before Powers.
