Posted on: Monday, 14 May 2007, 18:00 CDT

eClinicalWorks™, a market leader in unified EMR/PM systems, today announced that it is a partner for National Health IT Week (NHIT). More than 55 healthcare IT organizations, government leaders and private industry groups will convene in Washington, D.C., May 14-18, 2007, to promote the use of healthcare information technology to achieve better care and lower medical costs.

National Health IT Week is a collaborative forum where organizations with diverse perspectives on healthcare unite to send a powerful message on the importance of fostering widespread health IT adoption. Associations, payers, provider groups, vendors, consumer organizations and research foundations work together under one banner with the goal of accelerating change to improve healthcare efficiency, quality, cost-effectiveness and patient safety in the U.S.

"Technology advancements, including electronic health records, have great potential to dramatically increase the quality of patient care," said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. "By participating in National Health IT Week, we are working with other organizations that share our goal in increasing the use of IT in a way that will most benefit the delivery of healthcare."

Activities throughout National Health IT Week consist of individually planned and hosted conferences and meetings. The week's unique combination of industry events elevates national attention on the necessity of health IT adoption. Events during National Health IT Week include:

HIMSS Advocacy Day (May 15, Washington Court Hotel/Capitol Hill)

The purpose of Advocacy Day is to advance the best use of health IT to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare.

Participants connect with federal and congressional healthcare policymakers in a half-day discussion on current issues before traveling to Capitol Hill to engage with Members of Congress and their staff on the HIMSS Advocacy Agenda.

National Health IT Week Networking Reception (May 15, Capitol Hill Club)

2007 HIMSS Advocacy Award winners will be announced.

-- US Senate Healthcare Quality Improvement and IT Caucus Technology Demonstration Showcase (May 16, Dirksen Senate Office Building)

National Health IT Week will further the discussion and actions needed to achieve national healthcare transformation for the purpose of improved patient safety and cost efficiency.
