A.D.A.M., Inc. (Nasdaq:ADAM), today announced that Indiana's largest health center and one of the busiest health systems in the nation, Indianapolis-based Clarian Health, has selected A.D.A.M. as the primary health content provider for its Web site, www.clarian.org. Under the terms of the agreement, Clarian will license a full suite of A.D.A.M.'s health information and decision support tools, including its illustrated encyclopedia, health centers, and health risk assessment library. In addition to being used for general health reference on the site, the A.D.A.M. articles and images have been integrated in Clarian's quality and pricing transparency initiatives, which can be accessed on their Web site at www.clarian.org/priceguide.
In accordance with its mission to improve the health of its patients and the community and its focus on wellness and prevention, Clarian has created a more robust online health information resource for consumers and patients. With A.D.A.M.'s award-winning health knowledgebase, visitors to Clarian's Web site can learn about thousands of diseases and conditions, drugs, surgeries, tests, and more. The health information is written in a consumer-friendly language and is filled with interactive tools, animations, and illustrations to make the learning experience more understandable and enjoyable.
"After evaluating numerous content vendors, we determined A.D.A.M. would provide a strong option to help increase our ability to educate consumers and patients about their health and wellness," said William Stephan, senior vice president, community relations and communications for Clarian. "The A.D.A.M. content is presented in a user-friendly and easy-to-read format and offers a depth and breadth of material necessary to educate and empower consumers. We believe enhancing the information we have available will help our overall efforts to offer the highest quality care and ensure that consumers have access to information on all facets of health care."
In a groundbreaking effort to enable patients to become better-informed, empowered and more responsible health care consumers, Clarian is also offering quality and pricing information on its Web site. Clarian.org offers information on outcomes and quality measurements along with estimated prices and out-of-pocket costs for inpatient and outpatient procedures. Clarian's Quality and Price Guide has fully integrated A.D.A.M. health articles and illustrations that educate consumers about the procedure, how it is performed and what to expect. This initiative is on the leading edge of the growing national health movement to make cost and quality data transparent. Clarian is one of the first hospitals in the nation to offer this important service to consumers.
"With A.D.A.M.'s health information integrated in context with Clarian's cost and quality data, patients will be empowered with everything they need to make the right decisions for their health," said Greg Juhn, A.D.A.M.'s senior vice president of product strategy. "In the new era of consumer-directed health care, this kind of tool is becoming a necessity. We're proud to be part of such an important initiative, and we applaud Clarian Health for their forethought and leadership."
