Nearly three quarters of Poles asked say they would not mind if their organs are donated for transplants after they die, a Polish public opinion poll found.

The Mareco Polska research agency said the survey showed 72 percent of respondents would not object to donating their organs for transplants after death, and 49 percent indicated would sign a consent form while they were still alive, Polish Radio reported Tuesday.

The Polish newspaper Zycie Warszawy, which commissioned the poll, noted there was a discrepancy between the percentage of Poles who would not object giving their organs after their death and those who would agree to sign their permission immediately. The report did not give the number of survey participants or the poll’s margin of error.

Professor Janusz Czaplinski, a psychologist at the Warsaw University, said Poles tend to offer theoretical responses before they begin considering the consequences of organ donation, the radio said.
