The Jalalaqsi district hospital in Hiiraan Region [central Somalia] was re-opened yesterday after eight years. A local NGO called Salsal and the district administration cooperated to see the hospital re-opened.

Operations at the hospital resumed yesterday. More than 369 eye patients underwent free eye operations, as confirmed to Shabeelle by Hadi Abdi Yusuf, the chairman of local Salsal NGO.

Mr Yusuf said the hospital is funded by the residents of the district and Salsal NGO.

He said that the hospital now has many departments for patients like those suffering from tuberculosis, those with infected wounds, as well as, maternal care and children’s department.

The chairman said the hospital will take care of the medical needs of the villagers in Jalalaqsi district. The people of these villages used to seek medical services from other towns far from their villages.

This is not the first time the Salsal Organization has provided services in central Somalia. It has previously implemented humanitarian projects in the area.
