NMA Applauds the Issue of Healthcare in the Presidential Campaign
WASHINGTON, May 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The National Medical Association (NMA), representing the interests of more than 30,000 African American physicians, applauds the issue of healthcare being included in the 2008 presidential campaign. “We are pleased that a leading presidential candidate (US Senator Hillary Clinton D-NY) presented her plan to reduce premiums, eliminate inefficiencies and bureaucracies in our healthcare system. It is long over due,” said Mohammad Akhter, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Director of the NMA. “We appreciate this first step and we look forward to the remaining presidential candidates presenting their healthcare proposals so that they too can be reviewed and publicly debated,” he concluded.
Founded in 1895, the National Medical Association is the nation’s oldest and largest medical association representing the interests of more than 30,000 African-American physicians and their patients. The NMA has repeatedly advocated for policies that would assure equitable and quality health care for all people.
