Children’s Hospital received the award at the 2007 Eclipsys Executive Forum, held recently in Scottsdale, AZ. As part of the award, Eclipsys will make a charitable donation on behalf of the winner. Children’s Hospital selected the Children’s Hospital Foundation as the recipient.

Children’s Hospital has established itself as a leader in the use of technology to meet its strategic goals and to advance the practice of safe patient care for the children it serves. In the past 24 months, Children’s Hospital improved its clinical and financial operations using Eclipsys solutions and has become a leader among similar-sized pediatric organizations in implementing new technologies. Children’s Hospital also has demonstrated leadership as one of the first Eclipsys’ clients to implement Sunrise Pharmacy(TM), the integrated Pharmacy information system component of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Medication Management(TM) solution.

Aligning Resources to Gain Value

The use of metrics to gauge project- and change-management success is built into Children’s Hospital’s formal process-improvement and project- management methodologies. Clinical and operational team members across the organization use these outcome measurements to review performance and determine where improvements are needed. Since implementing Eclipsys solutions, Children’s Hospital has achieved many outcome improvements, including:

   — Reduced transcription errors 60 percent by replacing a dual order-entry process with the integrated Sunrise Clinical Manager(TM) platform — Net revenue increase of over $2.5 million only eight months after going live on Sunrise Pharmacy — 100-percent survey compliance (2007) in the Joint Commission medication reconciliation process — Return on investment in Eclipsys solutions totaling $13 million in just 15 months

“We created the President’s Award to single out the Eclipsys’ client which best demonstrates the ability to improve care quality and achieve other impressive outcome improvements using Eclipsys solutions,” said R. Andrew Eckert, Eclipsys president and chief executive officer. “From its Board of Directors to clinicians and IT staff, Children’s Hospital has a strong organizational commitment to achieving and measuring outcome improvements, providing a perfect example of how to align resources to get incredible value from Eclipsys solutions.”
