Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center to Rollout PatientKeeper to Its Provider Community
Posted on: Wednesday, 30 May 2007, 15:00 CDT
Saint Joseph Medical Center, part of the Provena Health System, today announced that they have contracted with PatientKeeper® and will deploy its physician information system to the entire physician community.
Saint Joseph will be the first hospital in Provena Health System to deploy PatientKeeper to their providers in order to enhance the accessibility, usability and availability of its information systems. PatientKeeper will make it easier for physicians to practice medicine and make the delivery of high quality care to their patients more efficient.
PatientKeeper's thin-client portal provides physicians with a single view of their patients' clinical data stored in St. Joseph's MEDITECH system and other non-HIS systems such as PACS, EKG, and EMRs. By providing physicians with access to PatientKeeper Physician Portal, eSignature, Sign-Out, Mobile Clinical Results and other products, physicians have up-to-date patient information anytime, anywhere from a tablet, laptop, PDA, or Smartphone -- whichever best supports the physician's workflow.
"After talking to PatientKeeper clients, we were impressed that physicians actually get excited about using software from PatientKeeper," said John Lynch, chief information officer of Provena Health System. "Deploying PatientKeeper was a low risk, high-impact decision."
What began as an effort on the part of St. Joseph's to provide their physicians with quick access to clinical results in a physician-centric view on a PDA has evolved into something much broader. "While evaluating vendors that might meet our initial objective, it became evident that PatientKeeper could provide a great deal more," said Dr. Lon McPherson, chief medical officer, Saint Joseph Medical Center. "PatientKeeper's extensive product offerings align closely with Provena's goal of providing physicians with faster and easier access to critical patient information and also the ability to act on that information more promptly and effectively."
PatientKeeper's experience and expertise from working with over 100 MEDITECH client hospitals to date were also critical decision factors. PatientKeeper provides integration to MEDITECH that extracts data from MEDITECH without HL7 interfaces and also makes use of all the existing security and reference data in MEDITECH to allow for a rapid deployment and minimal on-going management.
In addition, the PatientKeeper Repository™ serves as a downtime solution, giving all clinicians uninterrupted access to patient information if the MEDITECH system is unavailable. The repository allows clients to not only store MEDITECH data, but to bring in data from other systems in the hospital, EMRs, and even other hospital systems creating a true community health network.
"Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center shares the vision of providing their physicians with clinical data across the continuum of care as many of our clients do" said Paul W. Brient, PatientKeeper chief executive officer. "We are looking forward to expanding our partnership with Provena and continuing to find new, innovative ways to help them remain at the forefront of clinical excellence."
The popularity of PatientKeeper's physician information system continues to grow because of its innovative, integrated portal and mobile applications and has been integrated to all major hospital information systems and electronic medical records (EMRs), including Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, GE Healthcare/IDX, McKesson, MEDITECH, QuadraMed, Siemens, and others.
