NCQA Awards Hip Health Plan Quality Plus Distinction in Member Connections

Posted on: Monday, 4 June 2007, 15:00 CDT

NEW YORK, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- HIP Health Plan of New York today announced that NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) has awarded HIP's Commercial HMO and POS lines of business Quality plus Distinction in Member Connections.

NCQA is an independent, non-profit organization that assesses and reports on the quality of the nation's managed care plans. Its Quality Plus Distinction recognizes HIP as an innovative plan that leads the market in leveraging the Web to promote members' self-management of chronic conditions. It does so by allowing members to track claims online, and obtaining information about their health status, health plan resources and benefits.

"HIP Health Plan of New York is to be commended for meeting our new Member Connection standards," said NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane. "Meeting these standards is an indication that HIP Health Plan of New York uses technology effectively to connect with its members and keep them involved in their care. There's real value in doing so -- engaged patients have better outcomes."

HIP Health Plan of New York (HIP) is among the largest health plans in New York State, providing access to physician services and hospital care in New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. In 2006, HIP and Group Health, Inc. (GHI) obtained approval to affiliate under a parent company, EmblemHealth, Inc. The combined company will serve more than four million individuals and offer nearly 92,000 physicians and other providers in 142,000 locations.
