Sutter Solano Medical Center Improves Quality Ratings

Posted on: Monday, 11 June 2007, 12:00 CDT

VALLEJO, Calif., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sutter Solano Medical Center has improved its ratings for three established quality indicators-heart attacks, heart failure, and pneumonia. The ratings mark a significant improvement over one year ago and are available at the SSMC Web site (http://www.suttersolano.org/) under the About Us and Quality Report tabs.

This improvement, however, is not reflected in data recently published by California Hospital Assessment and Reporting Task Force (CHART) on its Web site. According to Angela Anderson, R.N., director of Integrated Quality Services at SSMC, the CHART data has not been updated and is actually about a year old.

"CHART is collecting data from a variety of sources, so it's a challenge for it to translate everything into a common language and keep the information current," says Anderson. "Unfortunately it's not evident on the CHART site that we are currently meeting our clinical benchmarks, but we are."

CHART was established in 2004 to develop a statewide hospital performance reporting system using a multi-stakeholder collaborative process. It publicly launched its first standard quality report card for 210 California hospitals in March.

CHART plans to update the information at http://www.calhospitalcompare.org/ on a quarterly basis, and ultimately get to a point where the data is close to real-time.

"We have a constant focus on improving our level of patient care, so we prefer that potential patients judge us on what we're doing right now," says Anderson. "We think it's great that independent sites like CHART's exist, but we also invite people interested in researching our hospital to visit our Web site, which contains the most recent data, or contact us directly at 707-554-5093."
