VERNON, B.C. (CP) – A Vernon doctor has been removed as a member of the B.C. College of Physicians for helping a patient attempt to commit suicide.

Dr. Ramesh Kumar Sharma faced both criminal and disciplinary charges for aiding and abetting a patient to attempt to commit suicide.

Sharma pleaded guilty to the criminal charges in March and agreed to withdraw from active clinical practice immediately.

Because Sharma was convicted of an indictable offence he has also been erased from the B.C. college register.

Earlier this month, Sharma faced the college disciplinary charges and agreed to immediate erasure from the registra.

The doctor will aso pay $9,000 to contribute to the college’s costs.
