This Father's Day, Keep Dad's Health in Check With Omron Healthcare's Newest Home Blood Pressure Monitor

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Think outside of the usual socks, ties or golf clubs for Dad this year, and give a gift that will really keep him at the top of his game: Omron Healthcare's most advanced home blood pressure monitor, model HEM-790IT with PC downloading capability. He'll enjoy the interactive, "hands-on" approach that allows him to easily take blood pressure readings and directly download them to a PC, where the statistics are organized into easy-to-read graphs to chart trends over time.
The older Dads get, the greater their chance of developing high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart disease, kidney failure -- and stroke. In fact, a sharp increase in blood pressure in the morning specifically has shown to increase stroke risk among the elderly, according to a study cited in the American Heart Association journal, Circulation. Omron's HEM-790IT has a specific function to help Dads monitor for this potentially deadly condition known as morning hypertension.
"Regardless of whether they are on medication, they are at risk for morning hypertension," said Charles J. Dushman, director of retail marketing at Omron Healthcare. "Even stubborn Dads will appreciate how easy it is to track their morning blood pressure on a regular basis, in the comfort of their own home -- and even print out readings to share with their doctor."
Ideal for sharing information with a physician, the monitor is designed to automatically store blood pressure and pulse rate information in memory for two people, for up to 84 sets of measurement values per user. It also stores eight weeks of morning and evening averages for each person. To help users better monitor their progress, the HEM-790IT can be connected to a home computer using a USB cable and Omron Health Management Software (both included with the monitor).
The American Heart Association identifies an upper limit of normal home blood pressure reading as 135 mmHg systolic and 85 mmHg diastolic. The morning hypertension symbol is displayed on the HEM-790IT if a user's average weekly morning reading is above 135/85 mmHg. The device also detects irregular heartbeats.
The HEM-790IT retails for $119.99 and is available online and in local pharmacies. For additional information, please visit http://www.omronhealthcare.com/ or http://www.bpnumbers.com/.
