New Community Hospital
"This is an opportunity for the community to see its new hospital first hand before it opens for patients at the end of June," said Ed Lacy, vice president and administrator of BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center-Heber Springs. "It is also time for us to dedicate a facility that many individuals worked so hard with their time and resources to complete. This event is also the perfect opportunity to see areas of the hospital that normally would not be allowed."
The new 64,100-square-foot facility is located on a 44-acre site that offers a more accessible and visible location on the east side of Heber Springs. BAPTIST HEALTH originally broke ground on the new facility on April 20, 2006 with a project budget of $21.4 million. The general contractor for the project was CDI Contractors, and the Wilcox Group served as the architects.
"The Cleburne Health Foundation was instrumental in our fundraising efforts," said Lacy. "Everyone from members of the community to our own employees have given above and beyond all our goals."
The new facility will include an expanded emergency department, an expanded operating Suite, a centralized outpatient clinic, in-house MRI services, a second covered entrance, a larger cafeteria and updated inpatient rooms. The new medical center covers 15 acres of the site, allowing for future growth if necessary.
BAPTIST HEALTH is Arkansas' most comprehensive healthcare organization operating five hospitals, including BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center-Heber Springs. The original Cleburne County Hospital opened as a 36-bed acute-care hospital in 1968. In 1996, the facility became the fifth hospital in the BAPTIST HEALTH system.
