Jun. 13–Douglas County Senior Services, with Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas, will sponsor a Medicare Information Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive.
The free event will feature speakers from government and nonprofit agencies, exhibits from Medicare providers and tables staffed with volunteers to answer specific Medicare questions.
Speakers will address Medicare fraud, interaction between Social Security and Medicare, Medicare benefits for veterans and the appeals process for denied Medicare claims.
Paula Haisch, SHICK coordinator for Douglas County Senior Services, said Medicare beneficiaries, future beneficiaries or caregivers could come to have their questions answered. Haisch also offers help with Medicare questions by appointment at the Senior Services office, 745 Vt.
“People ask questions like, ‘Why wasn’t this paid?’ or ‘How often can I get a mammogram?’” Haisch said.
She also reviews Medicare summary notices to determine what beneficiaries need to pay for and what they don’t.
“Medicare is such a complex system,” Haisch said. “And every year, it grows.”
People who need transportation to the event can call Senior Services at 842-0543.
A ride to and from the event costs $2.
