Ochsner Medical Center Offers Free Prostate Screenings Friday
By Anonymous
Ochsner Medical Center, 1514 Jefferson Highway, will offer free PSA blood tests for men over 40 years old from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday to screen for prostate cancer.
Information about prostate health, screening, diagnosis and the latest treatment options will be available. Ochsner will also demonstrate its da Vinci “S” Surgical System.
A PSA blood test measures the level of prostate specific antigen made by the prostate. Rising PSA levels can occur with age, non- cancerous conditions, and also from cancer and can be the first step in detecting early-stage prostate cancer.
Ochsner is a designated training center in the Gulf Coast for the da Vinci “S” Surgical System, by Intuitive Surgical, technology that allows physicians to perform intricate operations through tiny incisions, improving patient recovery times with less pain. Ochsner is one of a select few centers in the world with the “S” Elite model of da Vinci, and physicians throughout the Gulf South region and around the world will be trained at Ochsner on the S-model in techniques of minimally invasive surgery; specifically in urology and gynecology.
Ochsner is also the only hospital in the Gulf South graduating da Vinci-certified resident physicians.
