ALM’s Strategic Research Institute’s 6th Annual Metabolic Diseases Drug Discovery and Development World Summit, which will feature the latest industry and academic advances by the leaders in the fields of diabetes and obesity, is set to take place on July 16-17, 2007 in San Diego, CA. Year after year, this meeting features perhaps the most stellar group of metabolic disease experts from around the world to address the most promising avenues of investigation. The Scientific Advisory Board consists of co-organizers Michael Jirousek and Brett Monia, who have chaired this event for the last four years, and a third addition to the organizing board, Jill Milne. Other Board members include Sotirios Karathanasis and Cristina Rondinone.

This year’s conference will include informative updates on small molecule compounds currently in clinical trials from the DPP-IV inhibitor and GK activators classes. SCD-1 and ACC inhibitors as well as SIRT1 activators will also be reviewed. Nontraditional approaches to therapeutics including Ghrelin Speigelmers and SGLT antisense therapeutics as well as traditional biologics such as PYY and Byetta will also be discussed. In addition we will examine New Target space in nutrient sensing, ceramides as well as animal models.

Sessions include breakthrough updates on PPAR Development, Isis 301012™, Inhibitors in Obesity and Insulin Resistance, Alogliptin Benzoate, and the Glucokinase Activator Program and Dr. Milne’s keynote presentation, “SIRT1 Activation: A Novel Mechanism for Treating Type 2 Diabetes” and many more.
