Cell Works Inc., a Maryland-based biotech company, had focused on developing cancer therapeutics and diagnostics tools. Currently six U.S. medical patents are for sale, including one associated with a liver cancer therapeutic drug that has already been granted orphan drug status by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Also included in the sale are 24 foreign patents.

Company Summary: Cell Works Inc. developed two technologies for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cancer and other life threatening diseases. The therapeutic platform is a ligand-directed drug delivery system that can target an organ for greater specificity and efficacy with less toxicity to the patient. Certain specific Cell Works’ patents to be auctioned relate to the identification and characterization of classes and subclasses of circulating cancer cells, including microtumors from body fluid samples. These patents explain molecular, cytological and morphological analyses and methods for staging patients and measuring the efficacy of medical treatments.
