Language Access Networks Partners With viaLanguage To Address Multicultural Communication Issues in Healthcare

Posted on: Tuesday, 26 June 2007, 09:15 CDT

Language Access Network (OTC:LANW), the leader in video/audio interpretation services, announced today details of a strategic partnership with viaLanguage, a leading provider of global online translation and localization services. The strategic partnership is aimed to deliver a combined package of services to the Healthcare segment; thus helping healthcare plans and hospitals better-meet the growing demand for multicultural communication. In addition to helping healthcare organizations more clearly communicate the value of their programs to LEP audiences, the combined services and Healthcare expertise will enhance the effectiveness of their community outreach, education materials, patient-doctor visits, etc. in both written and on-demand video/audio format; while also increasing market share for both companies.

With the influx of immigrant populations and limited English speaking patients, healthcare organizations are increasingly strained to provide meaningful access to services. Having the ability to easily communicate with this LEP segment of their patients and membership base allows hospitals and healthcare plans to not only increase the effectiveness of their service delivery but also to improve communications and ensure compliance.

These jointly-delivered services will leverage each company's experience in delivering language services to the healthcare segment; viaLanguage's linguistic translation and localization services and Language Access Network's video/audio interpretation services. Together the services will offer solutions for both written communication and verbal communication, thus aiding medical staff and employees in communicating with patients.

"Our collaboration comes from a mutual desire to do great work and to help healthcare organizations provide better access to healthcare nationwide," said Chanin Ballance, CEO of viaLanguage. "With the growing desire to alleviate cultural barriers in healthcare--organizations want to not only provide better and more consistent care, but reduce the cost and liability associated with miscommunication, poor adherence to instructions and dissatisfied patients."

"Patients with limited English proficiency need to learn about their care in both written and verbal forms, and we are seeing an increase in demand to do so," says Michael Guirlinger, CEO of Language Access Networks. MARTTI(TM) (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter) allows the caregiver to speak to a live interpreter and that person, trained in many languages and in medical terminology, will speak to the patient families via real-time video conferencing. The patient can then ask questions in return, which will be interpreted back to the caregiver. In this way, clinicians and family alike can ask questions and receive answers in their native language.
