DETROIT, June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Danialle Karmanos' Work It Out (DKWIO) program today announced that it will extend its ongoing battle against the epidemic of childhood obesity by partnering with Communities in Schools of Detroit. Through this partnership, approximately 50 children and their families will benefit from DKWIO's holistic approach to providing the potentially life-saving tools they need to increase and maintain mental, physical and spiritual health.
"Childhood obesity places a tremendous emotional, economic and social burden on our region and our country," said Danialle Karmanos, Founder and Executive Director of DKWIO. "By partnering with Communities in Schools of Detroit, DKWIO will continue to attack this problem head-on by providing the means for adults and caregivers to ensure children to live more active, healthier lives."
The Danialle Karmanos Work It Out program and its Summer Camp provide a sustainable approach to total health for kids and their families. Featuring a wide spectrum of healthy activities, DKWIO and its Summer Camp offer children the opportunity to participate in cardiovascular activities, relaxation techniques, dance and nutrition classes, cultural events and more.
Additionally, the Detroit-area children served by DKWIO will again enjoy the opportunity to participate in "Day in the Park," taking place this year on June 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Campus Martius Park. "Day in the Park" expects to attract about 1,500 guests and will feature healthy activities such as a bungee run, boxing with super-sized boxing gloves, clowns, face painting, water balloon toss and a dunk tank.
"So many of our children are living unhealthy lifestyles. Yet despite all the conversation, little is actually being done to combat the problem," said Charlie Anderson, Executive Director at CIS Detroit. "That's why we're so enthusiastic about working with the DKWIO program to make an important difference in the lives of our kids."
