BAPTIST HEALTH Physician Performs Hysterectomy Using the DA Vinci Robotic System
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., June 28 /PRNewswire/ — Dr. Bryan Fuller, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology at the North Little Rock Women’s Clinic, performed the first da Vinci hysterectomy in Central Arkansas at BAPTIST HEALTH Medical Center-North Little Rock.
Da Vinci Robotics: Shorter Recovery Time for Hysterectomy
The da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgical System is an exciting breakthrough for women’s health care. “It allows the surgeon unmatched precision and control. Patients greatly benefit from decreased hospital stays, shorter recovery time and less pain. It’s a win-win situation,” said Dr. Fuller.
Tera Jones, the first patient to receive a da Vinci hysterectomy in Central Arkansas, suffered with uterine pain, swelling and discomfort for years. After having two children by caesarian section, she was not a candidate for a laparoscopic hysterectomy and learned about the da Vinci surgical option from Dr. Fuller.
“When Dr. Fuller told me about the da Vinci hysterectomy procedure I said sign me up. I have been amazed at how quickly I’ve recovered. After about a week I was able to get around. On the afternoon of my surgery, I no longer felt the discomfort and pain I had been feeling for years. It was an amazing experience,” said Jones.
Hysterectomy Recovery
The da Vinci hysterectomy provides women a less invasive, more effective treatment option for a range of uterine conditions. Potential benefits include: significantly less pain, less blood loss, fewer complications, less scarring, shorter hospital stay and shorter recovery period.
Each year in the US alone, doctors perform approximately 600,000 hysterectomies, the surgical removal of the uterus, making it the second most common surgical procedure according to the Center for Disease Control. This new advanced technology enables the surgeon to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions helping the patient resume normal daily activities more quickly.
