A tractor-trailer loaded with logs plowed into a line of cars stopped on Interstate 275 Wednesday evening, injuring several people.

Traffic headed to a Def Leppard concert at Riverbend Music Center was backed up on the Combs Heil Bridge over the Ohio River and the trucker couldn’t stop his rig in time to keep from piling into vehicles in front of him about 6:45 p.m., according to Chris Eveslage of the Artimis traffic monitoring center.

“Traffic was backed up. Everybody was slow in that lane, waiting to get off the exit,” said Eveslage. “(The trucker) went over the hill and came on the line of cars. He couldn’t stop.”

At one point, dispatchers had four helicopters en route to take the injured to hospitals, according to police.

Medical personnel from both sides of the Ohio River assisted at the scene, and both the Campbell County and Fort Thomas police departments were investigating.

The accident involved up to nine vehicles.
