Accused Girl Sent Boyfriend Online Message About Plan to Murder Family, Jury Hears

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. (CP) – A jury has heard that a 13-year-old girl sent an online message to her boyfriend detailing a plan to kill her parents one month before her entire family was found stabbed to death in their southern Alberta home.

A computer forensic specialist with the Medicine Hat police told the girl’s trial that conversations from the networking website Nexopia were seized shortly after the girl’s mother, father and eight-year-old brother were slain in April 2006.

Sgt. Timothy Schottner testified that the girl went by the name “Runawaydevil” and her boyfriend and co-accused, Jeremy Steinke, called himself “Souleater.”

In one message, Runawaydevil said she had a plan that “begins with me killing them, and ends with me living with you.”

In response, Souleater saif that he loved the plan, but they needed to get “a little more creative” with the details.

The Crown is expected to conclude its case this afternoon, the end of the third week of the murder trial.

The accused, who was only 12 years old when arrested, can’t be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Steinke faces the same first-degree murder charges but has yet to enter a plea.
