Jun. 30–Three area hospitals received awards on Thursday in Austin for performing “quality initiatives aimed at improving outcomes in patient care” based on national quality measures. DeTar Healthcare System, Citizens Medical Center and Cuero Community Hospital received the Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award of Excellence, an honor given by the Texas Medical Foundation Health Care Quality Institute, an Austin-based nonprofit group.

In measuring hospitals, the group partners with several state agencies, including the Texas Hospital Association and Texas Medical Association.

The award acknowledges hospitals specifically for improving care related to heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Of the more than 390 eligible Texas hospitals, 63 met the honor’s criteria.

“With this significant achievement, it is clear these hospitals are focused on providing the highest quality care to their patients. They recognize quality improvement is not about data, but about people,” said Tom Manley, CEO of TMF Health Quality Institute.
