University of Colorado Hospital Teams With NEC to Accommodate Growth and Enhance Patient Care for Its New Anschutz Medical Campus

NEC Unified Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of VoIP and data communications, has implemented a hybrid IP/TDM telephony communications network at the University of Colorado Hospital's (UCH) new Anschutz Medical Campus. The new communications network provides the hospital with enhanced patient care and accommodates the future growth of Colorado's largest medical services and research facility.
During the weekend of June 15 -- 17, NEC's onsite technicians and members of its Volunteer Services Group assisted hospital staff in moving equipment and providing technical support during the move from UCH's Ninth Avenue Campus to the new Anschutz Medical Campus. This included completing implementation of the NEC communications system in the new location without disrupting service for patients and caregivers. Throughout the weekend, volunteers and staff ensured a seamless transition between the facilities, upheld UCH's standard of superior patient care and enabled the new campus to begin full operations on June 18.
"The Anschutz Medical Campus represents the University of Colorado's vision for the future of healthcare," said Joe Bajek, Director of Information Technology, University of Colorado Hospital. "NEC's volunteers and onsite technicians ensured our staff and patients experienced the least disruption possible during our transition to the new campus. We look forward to leveraging NEC's communications capabilities to further enhance our patient experience in this new state-of-the-art facility."
UCH has installed NEC's UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX and UNIVERGE NEAX 2000 IPS to meet the communication needs of patients and hospital staff. In addition, the Anschutz Medical Campus also deployed NEC's UNIVERGE SV7000 to provide enhanced IP services to more than 2000 staff members and over 300 patient rooms in the hospital. This includes NEC's DtermIP deskset and MH140h.
UCH, a long-time NEC customer, is the Rocky Mountain region's leading academic medical center. It has been recognized as one of the best hospitals in the US and is best known as an innovator in patient care. The Anschutz Medical Campus represents the future of health care, health sciences education and research for UCH with an estimated 2.3 million gross square feet of education, patient care and research space.
"We value the partnership and long-standing relationship NEC has with the University of Colorado Hospital," said Paul Covington, vice president, Operations, NEC Unified Solutions, Inc. "The newly opened Anschutz Medical Campus reflects the organization's continued commitment to excellence in patient care, education and research. We are pleased have the opportunity to help meet these objectives, by providing communication resources to meet the needs of hospital staff and patients."
